I 'll try to elaborate on my points here.
In my usage of blackboxes, please note that I did not write "algorithms are black boxes", but "have become blackboxes" instead. This is because of the current way most people use algorithms nowadays - more predominently ML and AI algorithms. I understand that some of these are open source and therefore can be scrutinized. However, there's only a dozen of people who have the skills to do that. The vast majority just uses them as is because they have neither the talent nor the time to investigate each. I mean seriously, how many people investigate tensorflow or Pytorch for example, before using them. They just trust the contributors expertise.
I hope this adds a bit of clarity to my argument.
